Answering emails, drinking green tea (3 cups a day helps repair muscle tissue). I love what I do.
Over the past year I have learned a lot from many different people, different situations, tribulations, and… books. It’s been a year that I’ll never forget because it was a year of constantly moving forward, but also a year spent in the presence of people that I love and admire.
What I learned in 2010:
Training
1. A week off does the body good. If I’m adding lean muscle mass I’ll train for 3-4 weeks, then take a week off. The mental and physical recovery actually improves gains, limits plateaus and overtraining. We need more recovery time than we realise
2. Change is a good thing. Strategic change in reps, sets, exercises and tempos results in consistent gains that don’t slow down and workouts that don’t get boring.
3. Talking is the enemy. Probably the #1 thing holding people back from building their ideal body is a lack of intensity in the gym. With more time spent talking than training.
If you want serious results, start with an “old school” approach to your training. When it comes to any aspect of working out, whether it’s dieting, training, choosing a gym or even choosing what equipment to use, having an old school mentality will be beneficial. Forget about what the latest fad is and work hard!
Hard work can make anything work.
Whatever you’re doing, work hard. Hard work will get you results, simple. I think there’s a bit of a misconception about what hard work really is when it comes to working out. I used to think that hard work was merely showing up, doing the workout and then leaving. I’d sweat, feel some pain in my muscles, breathe a bit heavier than usual, and wonder why I wasn’t seeing what I wanted to see when it came to performance and physique. Read the rest of this entry »
No program is tailored to an individual and how they are feeling on a daily basis and most programs, unless made by a trainer you’ve had for a long time, knows your schedule and how you react to different training methods, isn’t made for you the individual at all.
Now don’t get me wrong, a program is a great thing to have, actually it’s a necessity. You need to have a plan, something to follow to get to your destination, training is no different. However, you need to be a part of any program, no matter how good, to get the very best results out of it you possibly can. You may not know how to build your own program to get the results you want, but you have it within you to reshape a program you’ve purchased or been given to fit what your body is capable on any given day.
