A quick story behind this picture – the other 2 photos in the sequence can be found on my facebook page:

To make a long story short, this is a man-made water slide on the side of a mountain on a nice man’s beautiful property in Maui. My reasoning: well, I may as well try and go as fast as I possibly can. Makes sense right? As you can see, I went flying off the side of the “slide” and proceeded to skid along the gravel that surrounded the man-made pool at the end of the slide.

The lesson: if you’re going to do something, you may as well go all out.

Fabio Cannavaro after scoring a goal – hopefully you’re this happy when you reach yours!

We all have obstacles that hold us back from building our ideal bodies – whether that’s building lean muscle, losing fat, or becoming a better athlete (or all of the above) – there are always things that will hold us back, or at least give as “an out”.

7 things that make for a better workout

Whale watching in Maui with Claire – a great reward after reaching a training goal!

1. Have a plan

Don’t go in there guessing what exercise you’re going to do next. That’s what most people, they know what they’re working, but don’t have an exact plan of what they’re going to do. If you don’t have a plan, you’re going to be wasting a lot of time and you’re not going to get the results you should be seeing.

Whether fat loss is your goal or you’re trying to pack on some lean muscle, your workouts need to be focused and intense, and without a program or a written down sense of what you’re doing you’ll end up losing a lot of that intensity trying to figure out what’s next.

2. Put it between two solid meals

Our bodies are like cars, they need fuel to run properly. Placing your exercise between two solid meals will give your body the nutrients and fuel it needs to run properly.

I’ll have a decent sized meal 45 minutes before exercise with lots of carbs and a source of lean protein. I’ll have a shake right after a workout, and then a big meal around an hour or two after that which will look something like this:

- 9 oz lean ground beef + 1 cup red beans + 1 cup brown rice + low fat plain yogurt + salsa. Read the rest of this entry »

What’s the point of life if you’re not improving yourself, if you’re not breaking your own records?

I just got back from an amazing trip in Maui, where I tried surfing for the first time. Everything about the trip was amazing, and I’m not using that word lightly. Surfing was a great experience as well. I remember getting up once on the first day, then saying to my girlfriends sister, who’s a very good surfer and an amazing photographer, that I wanted to get up on the board three times on the second day; that I wanted to break my previous record.
