Doing Whatever We Want vs Discipline vs Regret

Finding balance in life is a struggle. We strive to find the right balance between work and family, discipline and treating ourselves, but often are left with regret no matter what our choice is.

A part of living life to the fullest is enjoying treats, the finer things, or the guilty little pleasures that we all have. On the other hand, we feel better when we take care of our bodies. We’re more confident when we look our best and feel our best because we’re in great shape. A healthy dose of a clean diet and exercise even limits depression.

Simply put, we’re overall happier when we’re healthy.

But (there’ll be a lot of but’s in this blog post) life can get pretty boring and monotonous if we limit ourselves from everything as well.

So how do you find the right balance between eating healthy, which will make you feel great, live longer, and even improve your mental health, and eating junk food every now and then?

A classic ‘Cro-cop’ pic.

… Excluding those on steroids.

Yes, some guys have better genetics than others. Mine are shitty. My first 7 years working out yielded no muscle gains, while other guys I grew up with put on muscle like it was nobody’s business.

But, good genetics and shitty genetics aside, guys who are jacked do share a few of the same characteristics when it comes to their routines and their lifestyles.

1. ‘The Jacked’ know how to avoid plateus

Building YOUR Ideal Body

We all have different goals when it comes to fitness, we also have different starting points and desired results.

And no, we’re never going to build the perfect body, at least in our own minds. There will always be something that we don’t like, something that we’re a bit insecure about or something that we’d like to change. That’s what makes us human.

If there was absolutely no insecurity, no vulnerability, and no need for improvement, we’d probably be the worst person in the world to hang out with.

A large part of getting in great shape, adding muscle, losing fat, and building a body you’re proud of, is to build confidence. But confidence doesn’t mean you think you’re imperfect, it means you’re happy with the way you are. Actually let me rephrase that, it means you’re proud of who you are and how you look.

Yes, there are still some things that you’re a little insecure about, but they don’t really come up that often. You don’t spend even a minute a day thinking about them.

Rocky Marciano

Some say power is something you’re born with and can’t be developed – a statement that I agree with, partially…

There are definitely people who are born with amazing knockout power. Guys like George Foreman, Sonny Liston and Rocky Marciano were blessed with amazing punching power and didn’t need to develop it with any special training. Babe Ruth had pure, natural power, so did Bobby Hull and Lou Gehrig.

But power isn’t something you have to be born with in spades, it can be developed from mediocrity to something more. I think you have to have the capacity to develop it, you have to be athletic to some degree if you want jaw breaking power, but even if you’re not the most athletic guy in the world, you can develop your power to a much more effective point than it is now.

Where does power come from?

Power doesn’t start where it ends. That means that a punch ends with your arms and fist, but you have to go to the beginning to find that source, and then develop it from there. Power – both in a punching, shooting, hitting, and swinging standpoint – originates from our legs and hips.

Neither one or the other – hips or legs – have more to do with effective punching power, but when both are developed properly the effects can be awesome.

What is power?

Power is weight x speed.
