How to Stop Wasting Time and Start Transforming Your Body

Gain Lean Muscle

As you can see, I WAS NOT born with a body that would easily add muscle, or improve in other areas as well, like strength, speed and athleticism. Here are a few things that led to my eventual transformation…

For starters, if I hadn’t eventually met the right person who helped me build the system that lead to my transformation, I’d probably still be stuck failing, doing the same crap that I was doing for my first 7-years in the gym. I would have been stuck in the body that you see above.

Become Your Own Hero

Hero Workout

Pic from the new movie “Thor” coming out soon – pretty stoked for this.

Conan the Barbarian, Commando, Rocky, Batman Begins. I loved these movies growing up. They inspired me. I remember watching Rocky for the first time, then going for a 10 mile run in the snow. Those movies were badass. The heroes were badass and they kicked ass too.

I know there are a lot of guys that first get into working out because of heroes like that, or because of the comic books. I’d say the vast majority of us were inspired at some point – especially when we were growing up – by a “hero” who pushed us to want more and to be more. The hero could be Hercules or Thor; it could be Rocky Marciano or Joe Louis, Rocky Balboa or Superman.

Develop Power That Lasts

Build Lean, Athletic, Powerful Muscle

Rocky Marciano had power in the 1st and 15th round (when it counted the most).

Power is a fast but brief exertion of force. The more weight you can move the faster, the more powerful you are. But that doesn’t really count in sports – unless you’re an Olympic lifter or power. We need power that is there in the first round, quarter, period, or inning, but is also there in the last.

There’s more than one way to skin a cat

And there’s more than one way to build power that lasts. My preference is using each of them at different periods of training. The thing with being an athlete, weekend warrior, or just a normal guy who wants to be as awesome as possible, is that we want more. We want lean muscle, to look like an Adonis and to perform like Achilis.

It makes sense that we want power that lasts, not just something that’s going to be a one and done type of deal.

The System That Changed My Life: the PowerHowse Challenge

Posted: January 3rd, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Build Lean Muscle | Tags: , , , , | 1 Comment »

In the past week I’ve mentioned the system that helped me build 32 pounds in 32 weeks a few times, but I have yet to get into detail about what it really is. So here we go…

Just over a year ago I began writing a book. I had no title, but I had a purpose.

My blog is focused on helping guys build their ideal body – which often means more muscle, less fat, and improved athleticism. Three times a week I cover each of these topics as well as a host of other lifestyle topics ranging from being the best person we can be, to reaching our ultimate goals.

But I wanted to take it one step further and get into real detail about the methods that took me from a skinny, unconfident-in-how-I-looked guy, to building 32 pounds of lean muscle in 32 weeks with a performance-first training system. Methods that haven’t just benefitted myself, but others as well.

My Unique Muscle-Building Journey

Posted: December 23rd, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Build Lean Muscle | Tags: , , , | 7 Comments »

I’ve told bits and pieces of my journey to building the body I have today, and had eluded me for so long, but I never went into any great detail so I figured now would be the time – and with good reason (more on that later).

My journey to building 32 pounds of muscle in 32 weeks was exactly that: a journey. It was a long and frustrating process that started with 7 years of failure, hundreds of wasted dollars spent on magazines, supplements and products that finally came to a resolution with one solution.

The motivation behind me wanting to build this ideal body had to do with one thing: confidence. But on a more surface level it had to do with two things: girls and sports.

Confidence

I was raised by great parents who instilled a healthy self-confidence in me. As a result I was confident in who I was, but I had a body that in no way conveyed this confidence.
