A Lesson In Manhood

As I write this I have Sam Cooke’s A Change is Gonna Come playing on my computer. I’m tired. I’ve had a rough day, but somehow there’s an understanding that all things considered, it was a good day. And life is good as well.

This article will probably show up a week or so after I’ve written it. But as I sit here, writing, I pause the song and play a video. A video that, as I am about to find out, is about a man who has spent the majority of his life being seen as a killer. He did 32 years in prison for something that he didn’t even do. And now he’s free and fighting back, but probably not in the way you’d think.

Why Every Guy Should Get in A fight

Sugar Ray Robinson: arguably the greatest pound-for-pound fighter ever.

It doesn’t matter if you want to be the heavyweight champion of the world or not. Every guy should get in a fight at least once in his adult life. Just hear me out…

It could be a controlled match, like a boxing match or mma fight, or it could be a street fight. But every guy should know what it feels like to get hit in the face, but to also truly know how he’ll react to getting hit in the face.

A lot of us talk a big game. We look pretty strong, or we look like we can handle ourselves, but when push comes to shove we cower. We turtle. We lose our minds in the middle of the chaos and look for the quickest way out – usually in the form of a cheap shot.

Building Mental Toughness in the Gym

A classic Rocky Marciano pic

It was freezing cold out, and as usual, the heating system in the gym wasn’t working. I covered myself in sweats, a hoodie, a towel around my neck, and even threw on a cap, but I was still shivering my ass off. Needless to say, it wasn’t going to be an easy day.

Compounding the situation was the fact that I wasn’t feeling all that well. But I knew that excuses would make only my day a whole lot harder. That’s one rule I had for myself when I was boxing: never complain.

No matter how hard the training was, no matter what I felt like, I knew that come fight day I wouldn’t be able to make any excuses. I’d have to walk in that ring regardless of how I was feeling, and fight a well-trained and well-prepared opponent who wasn’t about to back down because I didn’t feel 100%. And no fighter walks into the ring on the day of a fight at 100%. There are always little injuries that walk in the ring with you. You have to accept that and move on – or don’t and fail.

Anyways, today was just one of those shitty days that you have to grind through, and do your best. And my trainer knew it. He knew that today would be a test for everybody in the gym.

Build the Body Women Want: Arms

Wladimir Klitschko knocking out Calvin Brock.

Arms are an important body part to focus on when you’re building a body that women find attractive. I’ve heard that forearms are like cleavage on men, in that women will take a look at a guy’s forearms like a guy takes a look at a woman’s cleavage – any truth to this ladies? There is, however, a reason why they’re third in the series and not first.

A woman may look for your arms, but she’s not even going to notice you unless you have a good frame – a topic which we have already covered in the first three articles in the series.

A woman wants to feel protected and safe in a man’s arms. Sculpted, muscular, and athletic arms are important to have in an attractive physique. However, you don’t want to have massive arms that are purely bulk, with no definition. You also don’t want to be supremely focused on your arms in your training either, letting the rest of your body take a back seat – a mistake I’ve seen far too often, especially with novice lifters.
